Administrative and Membership Officer

Part-Time [12 hours per week]

Salary: £10,000- 12,000 per annum, depending on experience.

The Anglo-Hellenic League (AHL) seeks to appoint an Administrative and Membership Officer, responsible to the Chair, Professor Kevin Featherstone.  This is a new post, to be held on a part-time basis, for 12 hours per week, with flexible working possible.  The postholder will work from home. The post is based in the UK, working remotely. The appointment will commence as soon as possible.

The postholder will provide general support to the League’s activities, covering events, communications and social media; data file management (including membership records); and basic budget processing.

Applicants will be expected to have a university degree (or equivalent), appropriate IT skills and those with previous office experience are particularly encouraged to apply.  Knowledge of Greece and/or Greek may be an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The postholder will be required to work independently on assigned tasks, to coordinate with relevant League Council members in certain matters, and to report to the Chair.

The duties and responsibilities of the post will include the following:

·         Communications: as directed, to deliver effective communications to members, supporters and/or public audiences via emails, and the use of social media (e.g. X, LinkedIn, Facebook); to support event publicity via Eventbrite, to coordinate with League officers (e.g. for the editing of its website and uploading to YouTube); and to respond to email enquiries.

·         Data file management: to maintain and strengthen effective management of membership data files (using Excel).

·         Budget processing: to work with the League’s Treasurer to process payments and receipts,

·         With the guidance of the Chair to prepare minutes, circulate papers for, and participate in League Council meetings (please note there are normally four Council meetings per year, plus the AGM, and these are typically held in the evenings, online and/or in person).

·         Attendance and assistance at AHL events.

·         To undertake other tasks as may reasonably be assigned by the Chair to ensure the efficient running of the League’s activities.

The postholder will work 12 hours per week, except holidays.  The postholder will mainly work remotely. The spread of the hours over each week will be agreed with the Chair, with reasonable adjustments accepted according to personal needs and circumstances.  The normal schedule should involve 1.5 designated days per week, with some consistency in the days worked. 

Holiday entitlement is equivalent to 38 days including public holidays for a full-time role of 35 hours per week.  The holiday allowance for this post will be pro-rata (for a 12-hour week), approximately 13 days in total.  Holidays will be agreed with the Chair.

The AHL will offer a pension contribution (via NEST) equivalent to 5% of the relevant earnings.

To deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility may be required in the duties performed in order to meet the exigencies of service. The role may also naturally develop over time and ongoing substantial changes to the role will be discussed between the Chair and the postholder, with the duties and responsibilities of this post updated as and when appropriate.

The appointment is subject to a three-month probation, in the first instance, in accordance with the AHL’s probation policy.  The contract for the post will run for one year and is renewable.
